  4.   The following list contains some of the error messages you may
  5.   encounter while running PC─INDEX.
  6.  
  7.   Can't Create Database File ─ make sure you have space available
  8.   on your hard disk.
  9.  
  10.   Can't Create Index File ─ make sure you have space available on
  11.   your hard disk.
  12.  
  13.   Can't find Discard word file. ─ The file 'DISCARD.DBF' could not
  14.   be found.  If you select the Edit Discard Word File option,
  15.   'DISCARD.DBF' should be created automatically and this problem
  16.   should not occur.

  18.   Can't find Include word file. ─ The file 'INCLUDE.DBF' could not
  19.   be found.  If you select the Edit Include Word File option,
  20.   'INCLUDE.DBF' should be created automatically and this problem
  21.   should not occur.

  23.   Can't find Phrase word file. ─ The file 'PHRASE.DBF' could not be
  24.   found.  If you select the Edit Phrase Word File option,
  25.   'PHRASE.DBF' should be created automatically and this problem
  26.   should not occur.

  28.   Can't locate the text in this document. ─ You may have selected
  29.   the wrong document format or your document may not have any text.
  30.  
  31.   Can't open custom character set. ─ The file 'CUSTOM.SET' could
  32.   not be found.  If you select the Edit Custom Character Set
  33.   option, 'CUSTOM.SET' should automatically be created and this
  34.   problem should not occur.

  36.   Can't open file 'filename'. ─ The file may not exist.  Check to
  37.   see if it does or not.  You may also not have enough file handles
  38.   available.  If you have the 'FILES=' setting in your CONFIG.SYS
  39.   file set to less than 10 or if you do not have a 'FILES=' setting
  40.   you may need to correct it.

  42.   Can't open file 'PCI.DEF'. ─ Try selecting the Save Defaults
  43.   option from the FILE menu.
  44.  
  45.   Can't Open Personal Name Database File ─ Check the name of the
  46.   Personal Name List Filename and make sure that it exists.  The
  47.   filename can be found by selecting Edit Default Settings List in
  48.   the Edit List Menu.
  49.  
  50.   Can't Open Personal Name Index File ─  Check the name of the
  51.   Personal Name List Filename as above.  If everything looks right,
  52.   you may need to copy the file from the original PC─INDEX
  53.   diskette.

  55.   Couldn't save custom character set. ─ Make sure there is space
  56.   available on your hard disk drive.
  57.  
  58.   CUSTOM.SET could not be found and could not be created. ─ Make
  59.   sure there is space available on your hard disk drive.

  61.   Error Creating Index File. ─ make sure you have space available
  62.   on your hard disk.
  63.  
  64.   Error Creating Wildcard Description File. ─ make sure you have
  65.   space available on your hard disk.

  67.   Error Opening Output Phrase Database File ─ Make sure you spelled
  68.   the name of the output phrase file correctly.  You may also need
  69.   to make sure that there is enough space available on your hard
  70.   disk drive.

  72.   Error Opening Output Phrase Index File ─ Make sure that there is
  73.   enough space available on your hard disk drive.

  75.   Fatal Error ... Disk Full ─ make sure you have space available on
  76.   your hard disk.

  78.   File 'filename' already exists. ─ This is just a warning.

  80.   File 'filename' couldn't be created. ─ Make sure that you have
  81.   space available on your disk.

  83.   File 'filename' is not an extracted word file. ─ The file that
  84.   you selected to index is not an extracted word file.  If you
  85.   continue, the results will be unpredictable at best and you may
  86.   crash PC─INDEX.

  88.   File 'filename' is not a phrase file ─ The file you are trying to
  89.   process is not a phrase file.  It is probably a single word file. 
  90.   Extract Phrases again.

  92.   File 'filename' is not a single word file ─ The file you are
  93.   trying to process is not a single word file.  It is probably a
  94.   phrase file.  Extract Single Words again.

  96.   Information is needed from the wildcard description file
  97.   'filename' and it could not be found. ─ The wildcard description
  98.   file does not exist or you entered the wrong name.  The wildcard
  99.   description file will be created automatically when you are
  100.   extracting words or phrases from a group of files.

  102.   Level One Cannot Be Left Blank ─ When entering phrases you must
  103.   include an entry for Level One and for the Search String.

  105.   Not enough memory to continue ... ─ There are a number of places
  106.   where this message could occur.  Make sure that you have 640K of
  107.   memory.  You may need to remove any TSR programs that are loaded.

  109.   Not Enough Memory to View a File ─ Make sure that you have 640K
  110.   of memory.  You may need to remove any TSR programs that are
  111.   loaded.

  113.   Out of memory. ─ Make sure that you have 640K of memory.  You may
  114.   need to remove any TSR programs that are loaded.

  116.   PC─INDEX Help File Could Not be Found ─ Make sure the files
  117.   'PCI.HLP' and 'PCI.INX' exist.  If they don't, you will need to
  118.   reinstall them.

  120.   Problem Opening Wildcard Description Index File ─ Make sure that
  121.   you spelled the Wildcard Description Filename correctly.

  123.   Problem reading extracted word file. ─ You may have a problem
  124.   with your system.
  125.  
  126.   Problem writing to extracted word file. ─ You may have a problem
  127.   with your system.
  128.  
  129.   The page width you have entered is not wide enough to handle the
  130.   selections you have chosen.  Please modify your selections. ─ The
  131.   printer width you entered is not wide enough to handle the
  132.   settings that you entered.  You may need to use fewer columns or
  133.   narrow the column width somewhat.  Experiment with the settings
  134.   until the required width (in reverse video) is less than the
  135.   printer page width.

  137.   The Phrase file 'filename1' has been modified after the file
  138.   'filename2' was created. ─ PC─INDEX uses the phrase file to look
  139.   up each phrase as it creates the index.  If you have edited the
  140.   phrase file after extracting phrases, the index will not be
  141.   accurate.  You will need to extract phrases again.

  143.   The Search String Cannot Be Left Blank ─ When entering phrases
  144.   you must include an entry for Level One and for the Search
  145.   String.

  147.   There may not be enough files available. ─ This is just a warning
  148.   that you may have problems later.  If you are processing very
  149.   large files, PC─INDEX may have to abort in the middle of
  150.   extracting the word list if it needs more files than your system
  151.   has available.  If you have the 'FILES=' setting in your
  152.   CONFIG.SYS file set to less than 10 or if you do not have a
  153.   'FILES=' setting you may need to correct it.

  155.   This is not a WordPerfect 5.0 document. ─ You have set the
  156.   document format as WordPerfect 5.0 and the document that you are
  157.   trying to process was not created using WordPerfect 5.0.

  159.   Wildcard Description File Index Could Not be Found ─ Make sure
  160.   that you spelled the Wildcard Description Filename correctly.

  162.   Word list file could not be found and could not be created. ─
  163.   Either the include word file or the discard word file could not

  165.   your hard disk drive.

  169.   to edit them using the Edit Discard Word File or Edit Include
  170.   Word File options, they will be created automatically.
